Size of the paper/card sheet: 8 3/8 in. x 5 3/8 in. a printed reproduction of a John Groth drawing in brown ink, based on a Millet image, with printed signature & date in lower right: John Groth after John Francois Millet '86. Groth has added his signture in black ink in the lower right. With the original envelope with Groth's printed address on back, 22 cent stamp & postmarked 14 Dec 1986; addressed in ink by Groth & sent to Mr. & Mrs. William Targ, New York, N.Y. Envelope surface shows light dusting. John Groth produced a number of drawings to be used as Christmas cards; these include several images of the Holy Family, often pictured in 19th century dress, the Three Kings/Wisemen, scenes of the Flight into Egypt, as well as, scenes and characters from Dickens' "A Christmas Carol." From the collection of bookseller & publisher, William ("Bill") Targ (1907-99), an early friend and admirer of John Groth. Signed by Illustrator(s).
