Hardcover - Early printing. Mystery set in a rural area of New Jersey - on the 'Manituck River'- where Seaman had lived with relatives during part of her childhood. The two girls - new friends - who get involved in the mystery surrounding the old house - are contrasted very nicely in the opening scene, when Doris, the rich visitor staying at 'The Bluffs', beaches her canoe near where Sally, who helps her parents in their boat rental business, is sitting. Sally is barefoot, wriggling her brown toes in the warm sand, while Doris steps out of the canoe in 'fine white silk stockings and dainty patent leather pumps.' The setting is so accurate that a local newspaper reporter was able to trace the route that the two girls in The Slipper Point Mystery took, matching them to the actual landmarks and buildings in the area, and current local legend was that an old house sitting on a bluff high above the river had been a stop in the Underground Railroad. Illustrated with a frontispiece and 3 glossy plates by C. M. Relyea. 207 pp. Very good minus in brown cloth with black lettering and a green and black illustration on the front cover (corners slightly bumped, previous owner's name in pencil).
