First published by the Princeton University Press, this Dover publication is a reprint albeit a nice one. Author "Percy Williams Bridgman (April 21, 1882 - August 20, 1961) was an American physicist who received the 1946 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on the physics of high pressures. He also wrote extensively on the scientific method and on other aspects of the philosophy of science. The Bridgman effect, the Bridgman-Stockbarger technique, and the high-pressure mineral bridgmanite are named after him." (Wikipedia) Previous owner SS Stevens was eminent psychologist Stanley Smith Stevens. "In 1934 Stanley Smith Stevens received his Ph.D. from the newly independent psychology department at Harvard, and two years later accepted a position as instructor in experimental psychology. Known professionally as "S. S. Stevens" and by his colleagues as "Smitty" in the ensuing decades, Stevens built a renowned laboratory of experimental psychology in the basement of Memorial Hall at Harvard. His own research focused on the relationship between the perceived magnitude of a stimulus and its objective physical magnitude. More generally, Stevens was a pioneer in psychoacoustics, and a major organizer of the field of experimental psychology. He is listed as number 52 on the American Psychological Association's list of the 100 most eminent psychologists of the 20th century. First Edition
FIRST EDITION. Publisher's cloth; a few annotations in pen and pencil. With the bookplate of Arnold Thackray. First edition. This work is an expansion of three lectures that the author gave at Princeton in 1935, considered a follow-up to his acclaimed book, The logic of modern physics (1927). "Through these books, and through papers on the application of his ideas to other areas of science and even to the social sciences, Bridgman's influence spread far beyond the field of physics" (DSB). Bridgman (1882-1961) was a noted American physicist and winner of the 1946 Nobel Prize for his work on high-pressure physics. His 1931 publication, The physics of high pressure, remains a foundational work in the field.
