Condition: Good. No Edition Remarks. 402 pages. No dust jacket. Red cloth. Black and white illustrations throughout. Light foxing and tanning to pages. More prominent to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Light cracking to gutters; some looseness to binding but pages remain attached. Mild staining to hinges. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has light tanning with soft crushing to ends. Book has a slight forward lean.

London: Spring Books Giambattista Basile (1575-1632) collected these folk-tales, written in dialect. They were first published in 1634, and sometimes are also known as the "Tale of Tales." This is a Near Fine copy of the First Edition (Thus), in an unexpurgated translation by Sir Richard Francis Burton, the famed explorer and linguist. Maroon cloth binding with titling on the spine in gilt. Clean text; 402 pages, with a bibliographic note at the rear.`Frontis illustration and five others within by Michael Ayrton. Introduction by E.R. Vincent. There is no publication date, but per COPAC, Quercus applies 1955 as an acceptable possibility. There is a tiny bump on the front cover, which appears to be a printer error; else a Fine copy. The dustjacket is Very Good (Minus). Although complete, with the price of 25 shillings, it does show quite a bit of edgewear, with rubbing, creasing, and chipping at the margins. In an archival plastic protector. First Thus. Hard Cover.
