This marvelous book captures the dramatic life and work of Thor Heyerdahl, who is best known for his Kon-Tiki Expedition, which he made some 50 years ago and which caused the world to shiver with excitement. He followed this up with new fantastic voyages and expeditions, crossing new oceans, the Atlantic and the Indian Oceans on the reed boats Ra and Tigris. Heyerdahl has traversed the oceans of the world on prehistoric vessels, explored the primal forests of the Andes and the deserts of the Sahara, wrenched secrets from the gigantic statues on Easter Island, excavating statues the size of 4-story buildings from the loneliest island in the world. All this has been accomplished to solve the riddle of a common link between disparate cultures, which has made him both controversial and respected. This book, written by his friend and editor, is both a biography and a Heyerdahl anthology. Many of the most exciting accounts have been presented in HeyerdahlÆs own words, which have captivated millions of readers., English, Year1994, Illust. B/W58, Illust.
