Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. The McCall Publishing Co. 1971 Hardcover 1st American edition, 1st printing (no later printings indicated). Book is in very good+ condition with no marks or creasing and tight binding, only some page toning consistent with vintage. Dust Jacket also is very good, shiny and smooth with no tearing, marks and only slight edge wear. Protected with brodart. SUMMARY: Though *A Trail of Blood* is a lurid title, in actuality this is really about a trail of clues in search of the two princes who disappeared from the Tower of London in 1485. Their uncle, Richard III, who most know as the villainous, evil king of the Shakespearean play, was blamed for their murder, but since the bodies were never found, what actually happened to the boys has been one of the great mysteries of history. Jeremy Potter sets his story during the reign of King Henry VIII. The protagonist in the novel is Brother Thomas, a monk at Croyland Abbey, famous for its pro-Yorkist (i.e., pro-Ricardian) *Croyland Chronicle*, an actual fifteenth-century book still used today by historians researching the Wars of the Roses. The abbey receives a visit from Roman Catholic higher-ups who are disturbed by King Henry's break with Rome and the dissolution of the monasteries which is underway. Reasoning that the king's father, Henry VII (the Tudor earl who killed Richard and usurped his throne), had every reason in the world to kill the two princes himself, the churchmen hope to discover what happened to the boys, who would at this point in time be in their 60s.
