Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. First Edition. This is a Good Copy of this hardcover book in pink cloth with red cloth spine lettered in dulled gilt. The book has a firm binding with no hinge weakness. There is one previous inscription to the front endpaper. This copy was acquired from the impressive private library of Film Director Roy Ward Baker and the book bears his name to the front endpaper.Baker started in the film industry as a gofar boy,but worked his way up to the level of as assistant director on Alfred Hitchcock's The Lady Vanishes (1938).He served in the Army during World War II, transferring to the Army Kinematograph Unit in 1943. One of his superiors at the time was novelist Eric Ambler who insisted on Baker being given his first big break directing The October Man, from an Ambler screenplay, in 1947.Ambler also adapted Walter Lord's A Night to Remember for Baker's 1958 screen version. His next two films, The Weaker Sex and Paper Orchid (1949) were popular but overshadowed by the success of Morning Departure (1950), also featuring John Mills.Baker worked for three years at Fox where he directed Marilyn Monroe in Don't Bother to Knock 1952. He returned to the UK in 1953 and continued to work on films. He worked for television during the 1960s. He directed episodes of The Avengers, The Saint, The Persuaders and Minder,8vo 101pp undated Circa 1932 Size: 8vo - over 5¾" - 6'' Tall.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. 1st Edition. First Edition (first printing). 8vo. 101pp. Cloth-backed patterned paper-covered boards with somewhat faded spine lettering. With a frontispiece and ten photographic portrait of 'the authors'. Corner tips rubbed and with some fading to the cloth at the backstrip ends where the dust wrapper is defective, and to the upper margins of both boards. Some fox-spotting. Faint ghost of partially erased former owner name pencilled to the front free endpaper. A good copy in the uncommon dust wrapper, alas a somewhat nicked, chipped, dust soiled, creased and torn example with several inches of loss from the spine panel ends, and several further fractions of loss from the corner tips and extremities. A satirical anthology of woefully poor verse, penned by Coward but accredited to a series ridiculously named imaginary poets: Elihu Dunn, Tao Lang Pee, Serge Lliavanov, Juana Mandragágita, Crispin Pither &c, each selection preceded by an introductory note by Coward ("Janet Urdler was born in Exeter on a very bleak day in November 1887. Her childhood was grim and church-ridden, nothing stirred in her consciousness of things other, until 1900 when she was taken to Dawlish in a bullock cart"; "Nothing whatsoever is known about Ada Johnston").

Hardcover with Dust Jacket. Condition: Good+. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Williams [?] (dust jacket) (illustrator). First Edition. 12mo. Pp. 101. Frontis. Coward photo portrait. Illustrated with black & white halftone photo reproductions on coated paper. Half red cloth, magenta patterned paper covered boards, titles stamped in gilt on the spine, laid paper, title and half title pages in red and black: head and tail edges sunned, gilt titles dulled, lower corners rubbed, edges and some leaves lightly foxed, some portrait leaves loose. In the three color illustrated dust jacket: spine ends and head edge chipped, spine darkened and edges chafed, edges rubbed. A parody: ten poets invented by Coward with short biographical introductions, photo portraits, and examples of their verse. Beautifully printed. The dust jacket illustration has every hallmark of E. McKnight Kauffer, but the signature appears more as "Williams" than "Kauffer," unless it's a tortured "E. Kauffer." No reference of this design appears in E. McKnight Kauffer: A Designer and His Public (Mark Haworth-Booth). Dust jacket preserved in a clear, removable archival sleeve. .
