Condition: graded POOR because one page/plate is missing (p.195) and one page/plate has white-out (p.82). The cover board corners are heavily worn as are the spine tips; owner name on endsheet and title page; several pages have tears in margins. Otherwise, the pages are bright, clear and crisp and the binding is tight.

The first facsimile in full tall Atlas Folio of the 1741 London 1st which was Tall folio (10-1/4" x 16") bound in the original blue and orange cloth . Complete with an engraved frontispiece by Hubert Gravelot, two engraved title pages, and 212 fine plates of artistic and ornamental calligraphy, many of which contain vignettes, all fully engraved in facsimile by lithography this is the only known copy in full dust jacket of this facsimile folio. original price in 1941 was 10 dollars . This work includes specimens by 25 different writing masters--all engraved by Bickham. First issued to subscribers in 52 parts between 1733 and 1741, this title was heavily used by its owners, making complete copies in fine condition very scarce. George Bickham the Elder (1684-1758) was the finest calligraphic engraver of his day. He was also an excellent penman, as 18 of these plates show, but he employed 25 leading writing masters to compose the bulk of this, his best known work, a collection of writing exemplars which helped to popularize the English Round Hand script in the 18th century.The editor of this new edition, was Philip Hofer of Harvard College an scholar in this field who signed the title page in an light pencil hand quite neat.
