November 2002 in Silver Spring, Maryland) war ein britisch-amerikanischer Mathematiker, Physiker und mehrfach ausgezeichneter Science-Fiction-Autor. Er war Präsident der American Astronautical Society und der Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA). Angeregt durch die Lektüre des Romans Ringwelt von Larry Niven begann Charles Sheffield ab 1977 auch selbst Science-Fiction zu veröffentlichen, angefangen mit der Erzählung What Song The Sirens Sang in der Zeitschrift Galaxy. Robert Silverberg (* 15. Januar 1935 in Brooklyn, New York) ist ein US-amerikanischer Autor, der vor allem für seine Science-Fiction-Werke bekannt ist und viermal mit dem Hugo-, fünfmal mit dem Nebula- und neunmal mit dem Locus Award ausgezeichnet wurde. Silverberg war seit seiner Kindheit ein unersättlicher Leser und bemühte sich seit seinen frühen Jugendjahren, Erzählungen in Science-Fiction-Magazinen zu veröffentlichen. Er besuchte die Columbia University und schloss 1956 sein Studium der englischen Literatur mit einem B.A. ab. Er blieb der Science-Fiction treu und veröffentlichte 1955 sein erstes Buch, das Kinderbuch Revolt on Alpha C. Im folgenden Jahr gewann er seinen ersten Hugo, als "bester neuer Autor". In den nächsten vier Jahren schrieb er, nach eigener Zählung, eine Million Worte im Jahr für Magazine und Ace Doubles. Unterwegs in die Welt von morgen ist eine Buchreihe aus utopischen Geschichten und Science-Fiction-Romanen, herausgegeben vom Verlag Reader?s Digest - Das Beste. Insgesamt existieren in dieser Reihe 50 Bände als Hardcover, die zwischen 1985 und 1995 erschienen sind. Jedes Buch wurde nicht nur mit einem ansprechendem Cover, sondern auch mit illustrierten Anhängen versehen, passend zur erzählten Geschichte und der Zeit, in der diese geschrieben wurde. Um die Bücher in die richtige Reihenfolge zu bringen, befindet sich auf den ersten Seiten jedes Bandes eine fortlaufende Nummer, die allerdings aus verlagsinternen Gründen erst bei 101 beginnt.
