Meera Syal (Wolverhampton, 1963) es actriz y escritora. Formada en la Universidad de Manchester, ha trabajado como guionista en varias series de televisión de la BBC y colabora habitualmente como periodista en el diario The Guardian. Su experiencia personal, al crecer en Gran Bretaña en el seno de una familia de origen hindú, le proporcionó el trasfondo de su primera novela, Anita and Me (1996), premiada con el Guardian Fiction Prize y el Betty Trask Award. Entre sus trabajos más recientes destaca el guión del musical Bombay Dreams, que ha obtenido una acogida sin precedentes en los teatros de Londres y Nueva York.
