First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: USED_NEARFINE. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. 1st Edition. First Edition ( 'First published in mcmlvii' ). Because of the loss at the top edge of the jacket's spine, I have chopped a big chunk off what the price would have been and what other dust jacketed first editions are selling for. The book is an excellent shape. The covers are very clean and their color is nice and unusual. I don't see any conspicuous wear. The white lettering on the spine is very bright. The book does have a moderate forward lean. However, it is solidly bound from cover to cover. There are no cracks or spaces to be found anywhere. The covers are nicely tight. The pages are in excellent condition. They're clean. I'm not seeing any creasing. There are no markings. No attachments. The previous owner signed the first front end paper. There is no other writing to be found anywhere in the book. You can see the dust jacket in the photos. The front and spine are both quite clean. The yellowish patches of color you see on the front and spine is the original coloring of the jacket. I confirmed that by finding a photo from another seller which showed the exact same coloring. The rear cover has some toning and handling soiling, also a small closed tear off its top edge. The second photo will show you the loss at the top edge of the spine. There's also it very tiny loss at the bottom edge of the spine. The flaps are in good condition. There is a tiny loss at the top of the middle edge between the rear cover and rear flap and a little of it carries over to the top edge of the rear flap. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. I've always had it in a fitted protective cover. "Proof that Durrell can master any genre. A quiet but suspenseful spy thriller with some similarities to Ian Fleming's James Bond"-- Early Bird Books. 'After some especially taxing missions, seasoned secret agent Methuen wants nothing more than to take a long, relaxing fishing trip. But after a fellow British spy is killed in the remote mountains of Serbia, Methuen is called back into action. What follows is a suspenseful tale of espionage told with Lawrence Durrell's characteristic panache. Methuen sets up camp in the Serbian countryside and baits his hooks, hoping to draw out the men responsible for the murder. It's not long before Methuen realizes that he's in a fight for his own life against an unknown opponent. Are his true enemies the Communists, the royalist rebel White Eagles-- or someone still more sinister?'.
