About this Item
An excellent copy of this very scarce work on the occult powers of numbers. This unusual and very scarce first edition, anonymously authored, discusses various esoteric ideas about the powers of numbers, with reference to philosophers and mathematicians from Pythagoras and Plato to Robert Fludd. The preface of the work explains the idea that 'man always seems to have had an overall understanding of an ordered universe, despite his chaos within. That individual numbers have their own characteristics and qualities has been a consequence of this attitude towards cosmic order and they present themselves as symbols of an ordered movement from the invisible to the visible universe'.Produced by the Pembridge Design Studio, a small private press in London that operated in the 1980s and early 90s, and who typically made books in very small editions of around two-hundred.With the inscription of Walter Brew, July 1985 to the head of the title page. In the publisher's original paper wraps. Fading to back strip, with one spot towards fore edge of front wrap. Otherwise, externally excellent. Internally, firmly bound. Inscription to half title. Pages clean and bright. Very Good Indeed. Seller Inventory # 860F22
