About this Item
A scarce first edition and complete set of Braddon's late nineteenth-century novel. First Edition. Complete in three volumes. Mary Elizabeth Braddon (4 October 1835 4 February 1915) was a British Victorian era popular novelist. Braddon was an extremely prolific writer, producing more than 80 novels with very inventive plots. The most famous one is Lady Audley's Secret (1862), which won her recognition as well as fortune. The novel has been in print ever since its publication, and has been dramatised several times. Braddon also founded Belgravia magazine (1866), which presented readers with serialised sensation novels, poems, travel narratives and biographies, as well as essays on fashion, history and science. The magazine was accompanied by lavish illustrations and offered readers a source of literature at an affordable cost. In cloth bindings. Externally, generally smart with some shelfwear. Darkening and slight cockling to the cloth of the spines. Some slight marking to the boards prominent to volume III. Rear hinge of volume III slightly strained. Internally, firmly bound although the front free endpaper of volume III is working loose. Generally clean with just a few scattered spots. Some tidemarks to the first and last few pages of volume II and the rear endpapers of volume I. Good. Seller Inventory # SET34-D-6
