About this Item
A scarce first edition of this dictionary on life and civilisation from Sir Richard Phillips First edition. Scarce work. With the odd in-text table or diagram, lacking frontispiece and title vignette. A detailed reference book on the "useful arts" of life and modern society, with details of the substances and theories used to create items now used daily. This work provides information on scientific and natural phenomena, as well as engineering and technological advances. Written by Sir Richard Phillips, an English schoolteacher, publisher, author, and vegetarianism activist. Bound in half green calf with marbled boards. Externally, smart with light rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and the odd mark to the board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd spot. Sympathetic repair made with paper tape to page xiii. Light age toning to the first and last few pages. Good. Seller Inventory # 876T62
