About this Item
Brown cloth. Small folio. 319pp. Illustrated. Victorian-era trade catalogue issued by this Connecticut company. The W. & B. Douglas Company was a foundry and machine shop from 1839-42 when they invented a revolving stand pump. They were also an early innovator in developing fire hydrants and small fire-fighting engines, as well as pumps used by fruit orchards and growers in spraying trees and plants. This priced catalogue is filled with nice engravings of the company's products including many types of pumps such as stand pumps, cylinder pumps, pitcher-spout pumps, well points, swan pumps, yard pumps, engine yard pumps, deep well pulley pumps, horizontal force, windmill, suction and force, fire engine pumps, donkey steam, hand rotary, hydraulic ram, garden or fire engine, wheelbarrow fire pump, portable fire annihilator, hydrants and street washers, grindstone shafts, and much more. A good copy with some rubbing and soiling to the covers and some wear to the upper spine. A few pages, including the title, have some heavy foxing and there is some spotting to a few page margins else the text is very good and clean. Scarce. Seller Inventory # 11543
