Sir William James Erasmus Wilson FRCS FRS (1809 - 1884), was an English surgeon and dermatologist. He had an interst in Egyptology and paid for the transportation the Egyptian obelisk inaccurately called Cleopatra's Needle from Alexandria to London, where it was erected on the Thames Embankment. CONDITION Yellow deocrative cloth, colour frontis illus with guard, pp xxxliii 475 with 46 illus including 2 colour plates, and a 32 page publishers cat to rear. Wear to spine ends and tips, name stamp to title page, split to paper at front joint, has been in a damp environment at some stage causing eps to stick to front pastedown with some loss a base of ffep, atmospheric staining to edges of colour plates.
