About this Item
A smart first edition of this brightly illustrated travel book on Germany. First edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece, seventy-four plates, and a folding map to the rear. Collated complete. A charming guide to Germany, with chapters on Strasburg and the Black Forest, Bavaria, Rhineland, Saxony, Hanover, Berlin, the shores of the Baltic, and more. Written by the Reverend James Francis Dickie, a Scottish writer. Illustrated by Edward Theodore Compton, an English-born, German artist, illustrator and mountain climber, and his son Edward Harrison Compton, a German landscape painter and illustrator. In the original brown pictorial cloth binding. Externally, smart with minor bumping to the extremities and the odd small mark to the boards. Minor fading to the spine. Front hinge starting but firm.
