Two volumes from the series Illustrated Biographies of the Great Artists. The first is a first edition, published in 1881, exploring the life and work of Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528), a German painter, printmaker, and theorist. Due to his intricate engravings and woodcuts, and his introduction of classical motifs into Northern art, Dürer was one of the most important figures of the Northern Renaissance. The second is a 1890 volume exploring the lives and work of early Italian sculptors: first and foremost Ghiberti and Donatello, but also the Pisans and the Florentines. In publisher's original pictorial cloth bindings. Externally very smart, with light wear to the extremities and a little darkening to the spines and extremities. Faint mark to the front board of the 1881 Durer volume. The 1890 Italian sculptors volume is firmly bound. Pages 35 to 46 of the 1881 Durer volume is are coming loose, but the book is otherwise firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Folding plate has a very small closed tear but is otherwise in excellent condition. Very Good. Seller Inventory # 841M33
