Much sought after set of facsimile drawings by Rex Whistler, based upon A E W Mason's novel. This is number 249 of only 1000 copies that were printed for sale in America and Britain. Each glorious print is tip mounted onto the right hand page and its relevant text is printed on the left. The drawings are typically 'Whistlerian', delicate, witty, and beautifully produced at their original size. This large format issue is a superb example of this wonderful artist's work as well as being an example of fine book production. The slip case is in a deep olive, a bit sunned here and there, and the paper label is safely present, but it is not perfect; there is a fragility to the top edge. However, the slipcase has done its job because the book itself has survived pretty well inside, although the red spine is slightly sunned. I classify this as Very Good but compared with all the copies I have seen the inside pages in particular are best described as fine. Rex's brother supplies an interesting account of the commission, and its progression to what we see here. There is a beautifully reproduced tipped in letter from Rex as well. It shows some of his thoughts, and has some rough sketches on it as well. This is a seriously collectable Rex Whistler example. 0.0 0.0 0.0. Seller Inventory # 002932
