Publisher's original red cloth over boards, gilt lettering and decorations to spine, blindstamped device to upper cover. (Note: the publication date of 1952 is present on the title page; on the copyright page "First Edition" is stated- as per usual practice for Knopf from 1937 onward; otherwise it is not a first edition. Publication dates for Dorset, Hamish Hamilton, Vintage, and Grammercy and others vary, but while they are reprints who need to state the 1952 copyright date held by Knopf, none of their publication dates are 1952; as explained on the copyright page of first edtions of this title only Knopf (USA) and McClellan & Stewart (Canada) are first editions, published simultaneously in 1952. Book Condition: cocked slightly, a little dusty all round with gilt on spine dulled and some discoloration in spots; mild wear to extremities with gently pushed spine ends and tips.
