From the elegant introduction by Bernardo Bertolucci: ÒJust like every movie about life is bound to suggest the idea of death, this is a life-embracing film about death. It opens wide on a world of intense vitality, which is no other that the longing for life as it is lived, faked, set in words or images. .Wenders, and us with him, get used to the idea of death - that neither he who makes a movie nor he who looks at it are immortal.Ó Robert Mitchum (1917 - 1997) was a sleepy-eyed, effortlessly handsome leading man, best known for his work in classic dramas, including film noir, westerns, and war films. Joe, directed by William Wellman, based on the books Brave Men and Here Is Your War by Ernie Pyle. Robert and Dorothy Mitchum were married for 57 years and lived together in Santa Barbara, CA.
