Brewer and presented in the original Middle English, the text includes a substantial Introduction, Bibliography, Notes, Appendix, and Glossary. The poem, written around 1370, describes a gathering of birds in early spring, on St. Valentines Day, to choose their mates for the year, and may be the origin of current traditions.
