A first edition of this very scarce novel by J. L. Hodson, surrounding the first and second world war. First edition, in the publisher's original red cloth binding, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Written by British novelist, scriptwriter and journalist, James Lansdale Hodson, who was also a war correspondent during the First and Second World Wars. His novel 'Return to the Wood' was adapted into a play by John Wilson and subsequently into a film, entitled 'King & Country' (1964), starring Dirk Bogarde.Similarly to Hodson's previous work, this novel surround the First and Second World Wars and the time in between. At the heart of the story is a visit of war veterans to the old battlefields, depicting the struggle and loss they experienced.With the bookplate of D. B. Anderson to the front paste down. In the publisher's original red cloth binding, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with light bumping to the extremities and minor shelf wear. Bookplate to front paste down. Dust wrapper is smart, with light edge wear and the occasional chip to the extremities. Slight sunning to the wrap, moreso to the spine. The odd mark to the wrap.
