4to. XVIII, 499 pp. Original paper wrappers. Text in Spanish. Fully annotated. Includes bibliographical references and a number of appendices. Teresa de Cepeda and Ahumada (aka Santa Teresa de Jesus or simply Santa Teresa de Avila1515 - 1582) was a nun, mystical and Spanish writer, founder of the Displaced Carmelites, an arm of the Order of Our Lady Mount Caramel (or Carmelites). She was a reformer of the Carmelite order of Catholic Monasticism, in the sense of returning to the strict rules of poverty. Her poetry and religious fervor brought her in the sights of the Spanish Inquisition, the ordeal that this book deals with. Minor Age wear, but book is in very good condition.
