Frontispiece. Black publisher's cloth in original dust-jacket; top edges stained yellow. Some small chips and light soiling to dust-jacket, end-papers lightly spotted. First edition of this mystery/horror tale about a chemist and his bacteriologist protegé who unwittingly wreak havoc upon the public. Laing (1903-81), an American novelist and poet was also the author of the horror/mystery tale The cadaver of Gideon Wyck. A graduate of Dartmouth, he later there became an English professor as well as assistant librarian of the University Library. Laing also collaborated with Painter (? - ?) on The glass centipede.
