Hardcover. Condition: New. By: Martha Acker, Pub. 1987, reprinted 2024, 200 pages, Index, Hard Cover, ISBN #978-1-63914-225-5. Franklin County was created in 1784 and was considered the 8th county of the state. It is located in the northeastern portion of the state boarding South Carolina along the Savannah River. Early on, Franklin County boarded Wilkes and Greene Counties, Georgia and Pendleton District/County, South Carolina. Franklin County is the parent county in part or whole to: Banks, Barrow, Clarke, Hart, Jackson, Madison, Oconee, and Stephens. Georgia did not require marriage licenses until 1805. This work is a comparison of all loose marriage licenses from 1805-1850 on file at the Georgia Archives to the marriage licenses recorded in the book. There are some remarkable differences in the two records in many cases. Within these approximately 1,800 records, the researcher will find that the author has laid these marriages out in chronological order giving the names and dates of marriage, and primary and secondary source of data.
