About the book >.>.> I first discovered silk ribbon embroidery several years ago through a dear friend of mine from Australia, and I had no idea what a wonderful form of embroidery it would prove to be. Kaye Pyke's book on the different techniques of satin ribbon work inspired me to combine silk and satin ribbon together with free-style crewel stitches. It is exciting to experiment with the wonderful range of coloured ribbons available to the embroiderer; silk, satin, velvet, rayon, polyester and moir? taffeta - and to combine them with some of today's beautiful embroidery threads. There is a difference between silk ribbon embroi- dery and satin ribbon. The silk ribbon is very soft and pliable, going through the fabric easily like embroidery thread, whereas the satin ribbon is first worked by hand to form the flowers or leaves, and then sewn onto the fabric. This book contains a lovely cross-section of ideas for the ribbon work - from clothing to tea-cosies, clocks to towels and cushions, to framed work and hat boxes. Do not f.
