Pauline Johnson is known as the Indian princess who became a famous Canadian poet. In fact, she was neither a princess nor a full Indian - her mother was English and her father was three-quarters Mohawk - and in her own day she was better known as a stage personality. In an attempt to portray her as a virginal princess, her sister Eva destroyed all her papers after her death and so became the prime source for (mis)information.
