Turner's Frontier Thesis was a major influence on the popularization of the ideas of American exceptionalism and manifest destiny, the theory that America was not only morally obligated but predestined to colonize the savage West. This volume is a 1956 reprint of Turner's essay, illustrated with original woodcuts by Vermont sculptor Abbe and signed by her on the colophon. A gorgeous edition of this important work.
