AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED. A two page original hand-written letter by Daisetz Suzuki addressed to Lady Bateman and dated Kyoto, Japan, December 20, 1939. In this letter Suzuki relates the emotional and intellectual loss he feels after the recent passing of his wife Beatrice Lane Suzuki. War had recently broken out and additionally Suzuki expresses his fears and his feeling that the world "has certainly gone crazy." Suzuki was the first great scholar-interpreter of the East to the West. Scholars generally credit Suzuki as virtually single-handedly bringing the message of Zen, and Buddhism in general, to the West. His epoch making books sparked a radical change in Western ways of thinking. Suzuki's historical importance cannot be overstated. Suzuki letters are quite rare and this is certainly a unique and important personal document. See photos. Seller Inventory # 46383
