[From Introduction to the American Edition] THIS book, previously published in several European languages, until now has not been available to the American public. It was written in German in 1933, based on a lecture course for physicians in the Academic Society for Medical Psychology in Vienna in 1932. Its purpose was and is to give the student an opportunity to acquaint himself briefly with Adlerian Psychology. The book is not intended to cover all its aspects thoroughly and cannot substitute for more intensive study of the fundamental works for those who wish to apply Adlerian techniques to education, counselling and psychotherapy. But, it should contribute to an understanding of Adlerian Psychology and counteract the tendency to regard as its content those few phrases which have become slogans. A few revisions, made in this American edition, through footnotes and added paragraphs, may serve the purpose of clarification. The foreword by Alfred Adler, the only one in Adlerian publications (to the author's knowledge), gives this volume historical significance. His remarks were written with propheticforesight. His words are as true today as they were in 1933. We are grateful to note, however, that the difficulties he foresaw in regard to general understanding of his scientific findings havediminished. Developments in science, relating to human nature and human relationships as well as to scientific methods and processes in general, have greatly substantiated Adler's concepts. Social science, social anthropology, psychology, psychiatry and, particularly, education, move in the same direction Adler indicated. Studies in epistemology by philosophers and physicists provide new evidence for his theoretical and practical formulations. Seller Inventory # 20160902001
