Manuel Rivas naci� en A Coru�a. Desde muy joven trabaj� en prensa y sus reportajes y art�culos est�n reunidos en El periodismo es un cuento (1997), Mujer en el ba�o (2003) y A cuerpo abierto (2008). Una muestra de su poes�a est� recogida en la antolog�a El pueblo de la noche (1997) y La desaparici�n de la nieve (2009). Como narrador obtuvo, entre otros, el Premio de la Cr�tica espa�ola por Un mill�n de vacas (1990), el Premio de la Cr�tica en Gallego por En salvaje compa��a (1994), el Premio Nacional de Narrativa por �Qu� me quieres, amor? (1996), el Premio de la Cr�tica espa�ola por El l�piz del carpintero (1998) y el Premio Nacional de la Cr�tica en Gallego por Los libros arden mal (2006), considerada como una de las grandes obras de la literatura gallega y elegida Libro del A�o por los Libreros de Madrid. En 2012, Alfaguara public� sus cuentos reunidos bajo el t�tulo Lo m�s extra�o. Su �ltima novela, Todo es silencio (2010), fue finalista del Premio Hammett de novela negra.
