The quick and easy guide to understanding and navigating the Internet, the world's largest network. Readers follow concise, 10-minute lessons to learn about everything from hardware to email, from downloading files to participating in news groups.

• Mini-tutorials are easy to follow and packed with helpful tips, definitions, and troubleshooting advice
• Specific directions on how to get the most out of the Internet
• How to choose hardware and software, send and receive email, download files, connect to other computers, and more

Twenty short chapters and an appendix constitute this quick tour of the Internet, with no shortage of examples, commands, and straightforward instructions. Half the 10 Minute Guide describes how to connect to the Internet and use your E-mail, while the second half quickly provides an overview of Internet tools and techniques. The appendix covers basic UNIX and other commands. Unfortunately, in a brief gloss like this it's easy to leave out important tidbits. For example, in the chapters on file transfer, finding files, and FTP there's not one mention of compression. In a chapter on World Wide Web, MOSAIC is completely absent. Other gaps make this book of questionable utility. Overall, this is a disappointing survey of the Internet.
