About the Author

Paul H. Forestell, Ph.D., is a professor of psychology and animal behavior at Long Island University in New York. He is also vice president and senior research associate of the Pacific Whale Foundation on the island of Maui. Forestell has studied the cognitive and social behaviors of whales and dolphins throughout the pacific for 30 years. Gregory D. Kaufman is the founder and president of the Pacific Whale Foundation. He has pioneered responsible whale and dolphin watching programs throughout the Pacific, and is widely acknowledged as an innovator and leader in marine ecotourism. Kaufman's work has resulted in the most complete and extensive catalog of humpback whale tail fluke identification photographs in the Southern Hemisphere.
