Lon Tinkle recounts the historic siege of the Alamo mission in San Antonio, Texas in 1836 when a handful of men held off Gen. Santa Anna's huge army. At the time, Texas was a part of Mexico, but many Anglo-Americans who were living in Texas wanted to either creat an independent republic or join with the United States. The battle at the Alamo unified opinion against Mexico and Texas eventually became independent. The author is a well-regarded historian who has written much about early Texas history. This book has a beautiful full red leather binding with raised spine bands with five compartments. Cover and spine decorations in 22 kt gold, all edges gilt, a silk ribbon bookmark, printed on archival acid-free paper with smyth sewing. A nice clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings and no previous ower bookplate. This book appears to have been unread.
