Translated by Thomas Johnes, Esq. Vol XIII, the Plates. London: Longman, Hurst, Rees, and Orme. 1810. 51 plts. Incomplete as a set: Vol. XIII ONLY. Half-leather marbled binding measures 10.75 x 8.25", 8vo. In poor condition. As is. Front and rear board detached from binding. Detached boards are scuffed at edges and worn/bumped at corners. Head and tail of spine chipped. Gilt lettering on leather spine moderately soiled and barely legible. Previous ownership bookplate found on front paste-down: "Hugh Owen." Front end-page torn at tail of gutter, fragile. Moderate foxing found on title page through contents, but lightens as plates progress. Plates overall attractive. Binding is fragile. Please see photos and ask questions, if any, before purchasing. Enguerrand de Monstrelet (c. 1400 20 July 1453) was a French chronicler. He was born in Picardy, most likely into a family of the minor nobility. Part of a series of books detailing the Cruel civil wars between the houses of Orleans and Burgundy, these are the plates detailing the various events and personages involved. Fascinating view of an early and bloody time; includes plates featuring Joan of Arc, Charles the Well-Beloved and other of the main actors of the times.
