About this Item

On offer is a super, original handwritten journal and diary relating to the southern Ontario ministry of a Reverend with a connection to the Sarnia Indian Reservation in Ontario Canada. It appears to be written by a Reverend George Goodson. He has not provided his name but enclosed is a prescription from a Strathroy apothecary and given the ledger details religious doings such as baptisms, births, deaths etc from Sarnia, Strathroy, Bradford +++ ownership seems assured. Local historians and collectors of south and south-west Ontario will find a treasure of entries from as early as 1845 through the 1870s. One 6-page list is The Names of the Heads of Families on the Sarnia Indian Reserve, Nov. 20, 1872. Another list (12 pp.) is of Names of Members on St. Clair Mission showing, in Class No. 4, Nicholas and Jemima Plain. (Aylmer Nicholas Plain published a book A HISTORY OF THE SARNIA INDIAN RESERVE, etc. at Bright's Grove, Ont. in 1975.) There is also list of members at Kettle Point and Au Sauble. Other items are of purchases with prices, dates and names of baptisms (in Adelaide, Strathroy, Sarnia), births, and sundry information. Church repairs (Painting Pulpit - $8.00, Paper for Walls - $5.00, etc). This is a pocket diary (18 x 8 cm) of about 84 pp. with the covers missing. Size: 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.
