The Ladies Repository: A Monthly Periodical, Devoted to LIterature and Religion. D.W. Clark, D.D., Editor. Volume XVII January, 1857 to December, 1857. Cincinnati, Ohio: L Swormstedt and A. Poe, 1857. 764 p, half-leather marbled binding measures 11 x 7.25", large 8vo. American Views: Page 64: San Francisco (From Rincon Point); Page 192: View on the Great Miami (Near Cleves, O); Page 256: Lake Como & Soldiers' Monument (Mitford, Conn.); Page 320: Mad River Near Springfield, O.; Page 384: Mill Creek, Near Cincinnati; Page 704: A Glimpse in New Hampshire. In fair condition. Boards are normally scuffed at edges and worn/bumped at leather corners. Front hinge cracked at tail; rear hinge cracked at head. Gilt lettering on spine normally dulled, but attractive. White scuff mark at tail of spine. Spine shows some cracking from desiccation. Front and rear gutters cracked with some exposed cording. Permanent ink stamp found on front fly-leaf: "Wm. S. Kelley/ Stockton, N.J.". Age-staining around plates; off-setting on tissue guards. Normal toning around edges of leaves, some instances of finger-soiling. Binding remains intact. Please see photos. The Ladies Repository was a monthly periodical based in Cincinnati Ohio produced by members the Methodist Episcopal Church. Published from 1841 to 1876, it contained literature, art and doctrines of Methodism as well as poetry, fiction and engravings. Among the most well-known of the engravings are the series of American views, taken either from large folio views or drawn first hand for the magazine as well as views based on images by W. H.
