1906 Fire Insurance Maps and Atlas of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma / Color Facsimile

The complete 1906 Sanborn fire-insurance atlas of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, reprinted in full color. In 1906, the year before statehood, the Sanborn Map Company of New York surveyed Oklahoma City for the fire-insurance trade, drawing the young territorial capital at fifty feet to the inch. Every building is shown to scale and color-coded for construction (yellow for frame, pink for brick, blue for stone), with heights, uses, windows, party walls, hydrants, water mains and fire stations all marked. The index sheet lists every street and every named business, church, school, hotel and factory with the sheet it appears on, and the key map places the coloured sheet grid over the whole city. The ninety-six numbered sheets work block by block through the business district along Main Street, Broadway and Grand Avenue, the railroad yards and cotton compress along the tracks, and the residential streets north to Thirteenth and west to Western Avenue - a city that was open prairie seventeen years earlier. This Exile Books edition is an unabridged facsimile republication of the atlas: the title and index sheet, the key map and all ninety-six numbered map sheets. Ideal for local historians, genealogists, architects, preservationists and anyone tracing an Oklahoma City address back to 1906. 100 pages. 8.5" x 11". Full color. Paperback.
