Synopsis: A comprehensive directory of more than 7,800 transactions involving U.S, companies, the Mergerstat Transaction Roster provides a snapshot of every deal tracked in 1998. Designed for quick, convenient reference, it is organized by SIC code and includes an alphabetical index of companies. This volume of individual transaction detail is an excellent companion to the Mergerstat Review, which provides a big picture M&A market perspective.
Excerpt. © Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved.: Mergerstat compiles statistics on publicly announced mergers, acquisitions and divestitures involving operating entities. Mergerstat has tracked these statistics and published its findings for more than 30 years. This 1999 edition marks the 3rd annual publication of the Mergerstat Transaction Roster. Transaction data is gathered on a daily basis using a variety of electronic and print sources. Mergerstat tracks formal transfers of ownership of at least 10% of a company's equity where the purchase price is at least $1,000,000 and where at least one of the parties is a U.S. entity. Data is collected for publicly traded, privately owned and foreign companies.
WHO SHOULD READ THIS BOOK? These statistics are useful to a wide variety of readers - foremost, chief financial officers, chief executive officers, strategic planners, accountants, valuation professionals and attorneys, or anyone buying or selling an operating company or anyone valuing a company. The book provides a snapshot of individual transactions and key information. For students at the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels, and for professors of finance, economics and business, this book is an essential reference tool providing "real world" transaction detail.
To these readers the Mergerstat Transaction Roster provides as much individual transaction data as is available. Each year Mergerstat tracks thousands of transactions and potential transactions and while we attempt to collect complete information on each transaction, this is not possible in many cases, particularly with private companies.
