How the 2-Digit Numbers Got Their Names

Why do we say "eleven" and "twelve" instead of "ten-one" and "ten-two"?

How the 2-Digit Numbers Got Their Names is a playful picture storybook that helps children uncover the hidden place value structure behind English number names. Join the Master of Order on a journey as his clear and organised thinking becomes completely muddled by the Goblins of Chaos. Along the way, young readers discover why some number names seem confusing - and how our base-10 number system really works.

Designed to support early numeracy and mathematical understanding, this book encourages children to notice patterns, ask questions, and build deeper confidence with numbers.

Perfect for:

• children learning place value,
• parents supporting early maths skills,
• and teachers looking for engaging classroom discussions about number systems and language.

A fun, thoughtful, and visually engaging introduction to the structure behind the numbers we use every day.
