Das Kempowski-Jahrbuch versammelt nicht nur aktuelle Forschungsbeitr�ge zu jeweils einem bestimmten Thema, sondern informiert auch �ber aktuelle Publikationen �ber Kempowski, von denen einige ausgew�hlte auch ausf�hrlich besprochen werden sollen.

Die jeweiligen Lieferungen sind thematisch orientiert. Leitend hierbei sind die j�hrlich stattfindenden Nachwuchstagungen in Kempowskis Wohnhaus.

Trotz der Vielf�ltigkeit seines Gesamtwerkes (Romane, Befragungsb�nde, H�rspiele, eigene Tageb�cher, ein "kollektives Tagebuch" etc.) gibt es in Walter Kempowskis Oeuvre ein zentrales Gestaltungsprinzip: das der Collage/Montage. Das Zusammentragen von Dokumenten und Artefakten verschiedenster Art sowie das Zusammensetzen von Textpartikeln unterschiedlicher Herkunft zu etwas Neuem waren f�r Kempowski essentielle k�nstlerische Methoden. Vom Inkorporieren einzelner (k�rzerer) Fremdtexte und im Familien- bzw. Bekanntenkreis der Kempowskis �berlieferten Episoden in den Romanen der Deutschen Chronik bis zum ausschlie�lich Fremdtexte umfassenden Echolot nutzte Kempowski die gesamte Bandbreite der Collage.
