25 Portraits of Rabindranath Tagore

Oversized softcover with photographic portrait mounted to front cover, with 25 full page photographic plates mounted to leaves as well as a full list noting when, where and by whom each photograph was taken. A fine clean copy with no markings, minor edgewear to covers. The first photo was taken in approx 1873 and the final photo was taken in July 1941 just before Tagore's death. This book was first published in 1951 on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of Santiniketan 7 Paush 1358 : 23 December 1951. This second edition was published in February 1961. Tagore was the first non European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913. A polymath, in the UK he was known as a bard of Bengal. A beautiful production. Uncommon.
