When an individual would fast, they would fast for forty days. Elijah ran from Jezebel and spent forty days in hiding. Moses spent forty days on Mount Carmel getting instruction from God. When Jonah finally went to Nineveh, the prophetic word was, “In forty days”, the city will be destroyed. Jesus fasted for forty days. The people of Israel spent forty years in the wilderness being prepared to walk into the promise. The number forty always has significance.
