6"X4.75" 35 pages. Illustrated. A promotional cookbook for Swift'ning Shortening, a lard-based product, developed by Swift & Company during the 1940's. It was developed to use the usually discarded portions of beef and hogs, and marketed as an all purpose shortening. Swift'ning contained a mixture of both animal and vegetable fats. One rather innovative marketing method was a paper disc attached to a 3lb can of Swift'ning Shortening. The paper disc was removed and sent to Swift Co., in exchange for this booklet, 77 Recipes. The Make-Your-Own Mix, a combination of Swift'ning. flour, salt and baking powder yielded 13 cups used for breads, muffins, waffles, cakes, cookies, puddings, dumplings and main dishes. A nice piece. Modest edge wear and some slight discoloration inside the cover at the staple. There is a mMailing label on the back cover (2 cent postage.).
