8s or 4s? Welcome to the Trap
An Urban Youth Novel by La'Kendrick Davis

Two crews. One summer. Everything to lose.

Twelve-year-old Quin “Lil’ Q” Washington is trying to lay low in Benton Heights—just survive the summer, help his mom, and stay off the radar. But that’s easier said than done in a neighborhood where street loyalty runs deep, secrets get you killed, and one bad move can change your life forever.

When he joins the Elevate You Summer Program, Lil’ Q finds hope: a mentor in Coach J, a teammate in his best friend April, and a chance to finally build something good. But the streets aren’t interested in healing.

After a robbery rocks the block and puts a respected storeowner—and a friend—in the crossfire, Lil’ Q has to decide:

Will he walk away from the past? Or get pulled back into a war he didn’t start?

Set in the heart of a vibrant but divided urban community, 8s or 4s is a raw, emotional, and powerful coming-of-age story perfect for readers who love The Hate U Give, Ghost Boys, or All American.
