Scriven's warm and colorful illustrations, aglow with gold tones, reiterate the loving relationship between boy and pet. Wistful Rabbit's mischief is never very bad, and Donald's efforts up and down the stairs look monumental. The illustrations, all of which bleed into the page, vary in shape and size, adding visual interest.
