Nick Butterworth is an author, artist and designer with more than fifty books to his credit, the most famous being the "Percy the Park Keeper' series, which has been adapted for television. He lives in Suffolk with his wife Annette and their two children, Ben and Amanda.
PreSchool-Grade 1-- A charming wordless picture book. Net in hand, Amanda sets off in search of butterflies, but has no success. When rain starts to fall, she takes shelter in a backyard toolshed. There she finds a small, upset fairy whose tattered wing prevents her from flying away. Amanda rummages through the tools, but nails and screwdrivers won't help. Finally, she runs to the house for a roll of tape. A trial flight proves that the wing is mended, the two shake hands, and Amanda watches with a satisfied smile as her tiny friend flies off. The pantomimed gestures of anguish, despair, curiosity, and gratitude make it easy to tell the tale from Butterworth's neatly framed watercolors. The action is depicted clearly, and teachers will be glad to have one more eloquent wordless book that will evoke fresh interpretations from young storytellers. --Susan Hepler, Alexandria City Public Schools, VA
