Cloth. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. First Edition. Albrecht Ritschl, after Schleiermacher the greatest Protestant systematic theologian of the nineteenth century, was the founder of the Ritschlian school. His theology was a systematic blend of historical research, respect for the natural sciences, anti-evolutionary idealism, a revived Kantianism, philosophical empiricism, among others. The last few decades have witnessed a marked resurgence of interest in Ritschl and his work on both sides of the Atlantic. This book examines critically many of the issues raised by recent researchers in the field, and pays particular attention to the questions of what is living and what is dead in Ritschl's work. At the same time, it aims at being a contemporary and comprehensive reinterpretation of Ritschl's system, setting before the enquiring reader a host of his texts, doctrines and arguments which were impoverishingly overlooked during a period of undeserved oblivion. Included are chapter notes and an index. This copy is clean and solid. Seller Inventory # 001096
