The book is illustrated with a collection of colour photographs taken from the Bavarian State Collection for Paleontology in Munich. It also covers the basic processes of fossilization and the biology of the major groups so that the function behind the structures that are seen in fossils can be better understood, as well as a short guide to how to collect and preserve fossil material.
